Global Ecovillage Network/Solution Library/Making table mats out of plastic bottle covers

About the challenge
[edit | edit source]Plastic can take thousands of years to break down in soil, and many homes struggle to dispose of non-degradable waste, such as plastic and glass bottles, especially in underdeveloped countries with poor waste management systems. Burning plastics can cause significant air pollution.
Description
[edit | edit source]A table mat made from plastic bottle caps prevents soil pollution. Littering in any home is reduced, and upcycling the plastic covers is far better than burning them, saving the user the cost of buying more plastic mats, which would create more waste in the near future.
What you need
[edit | edit source]Plastic bottle covers, plastic glue. Making your table mat can be very beautiful. Just get creative.
- Step 1: Glue the plastic covers in the desired design and color pattern, and let them dry.
- Step 2: Place your mat on the table, and you can place tea cups, plates, and bottles on it when you are using your table (you can also use plastic bottle caps to make other furnishings, such as baskets, lampshades, and clocks).
