Most of the content and assets we need for the media kit likely already exist. Key elements to include are a bio or About Us page, social media statistics, case studies, partnerships and collaborations, and testimonials. Additionally, it can be helpful to include high-quality brand identity images such as logos and product/service images.

Journalists are often very busy, so it's important to make the process as simple as possible for them. Although a web version is important, it's also worth investing time in creating a downloadable media kit or deck. Some media professionals may prefer this traditional format, and it gives us the chance to tailor our content to different audiences.

What Should a Media Kit Have?[edit | edit source]

  • Biography or About Us: The media kit should start with a biography or About Us section, where we can introduce Appropedia, the logo, and mission. Be sure to use Appropedia's colors, fonts, and other visual elements to reinforce our brand identity.
  • Appropedia's Team: A list of key staff members and their roles at Appropedia.
  • Contact Information: Contact information for media inquiries, including a press email address and phone number.
  • Social Statistics: To showcase your Appropedia's social media presence, it's important to conduct a social media audit or gather data from your social media manager. Keep in mind that our media kit will be viewed by media and PR professionals, so it's essential to demonstrate our ability to create engaging content and build a following.
  • Partnerships and Case Studies: This section is our opportunity to highlight any past partnerships or brand collaborations. Using logos or brief case studies can effectively position Appropedia. Remember the saying "show, don't tell" and let our partnerships speak for themselves.
  • Testimonials: Testimonials can showcase the impact and effectiveness of Appropedia to media professionals. Keep this section concise, with just a single testimonial and a related image. A short quote or a few lines of text can add credibility to your pitch through social validation.
  • Visual Assets (Downloadables): Include the most important elements of Appropedia's visual brand in your media kit, such as our logo and projects' screenshots. You can also include data visualizations, infographics, or product videos to make the media kit more engaging. Journalists may appreciate portraits of our management team, as they often cover stories about people. By including visual assets, we can make it easy for visitors to quickly see what we have to offer and consider Appropedia's brand for potential posts. Plus, we can easily update our external media resources to keep our media kit current.
