An open fire is a fire which is not contained in an oven or stove, in which the cooking pot or container (if present) is generally hung well above the fire. For the purpose of cooking it can be considered a very inefficient method. It however also fulfills in several other human needs: it provides light, heat, scare wild animals, repel insects, smoke food.
