Stormwater flows into storm drains and surface waters, causing erosion, water pollution, flooding, and diminished groundwater.

Stormwater treatment and mitigation measures cut down on these problems, including the amount of pollution reaching creeks and streams. Groundwater recharge can be viewed as a more positive way of describing this.
