Building a sewer system?  Let’s face it, it’s a bad idea.  For a sewer system to work you’ll need pipes running from each home to a treatment facility or [[septic tank]].  It tends to be a waste and not the best thing for the environment.  Not to mention the fact that to get the waste from you house to your treatment location you’ll need [[water]], lots of it.  Let us also not forget the need for someone who can fix the system if it breaks.

So what is a better way to go?  I’ve been researching [[yurts]] a lot lately and while surfing along I found this book [http://www.jenkinspublishing.com/humanure.html The Humanure Handbook by Joseph Jenkins].  I haven’t bought myself a copy yet but you can download the first edition from the web site.  The book offers an alternative to a sewer system and shows how to make human waste safe for growing gardens.
