Problem being addressed
Many infections occur when the umbilical cord is improperly cut and the wound is improperly treated. This is especially an issue in regions like southeast Asia and Africa where home births are very common. The SafeSnip device makes umbilical cord disposal safer, easier and more sanitary.
Detailed description of the solution
The SafeSnip first clamps down on the umbilical cord, then cuts using pressure. The two parts are sterile before they are clamped together. One half of the device stays firmly on the side with the baby to seal the wound and the other half is discarded.
