BRIDGE (Building Resources in International Development for Global Equality) Nicaragua, is a nonprofit group founded  by students from San Francisco State University which seeks to improve the lives of rural Nicaraguans through educational and infrastructure development.
Morrito, Nicaragua, is a small fishing community on the east shore of Lake NicaraguaIt was ranked by the government of Nicaragua as the third poorest Municipality in the second poorest country in the Americas.  In April 2008, community leaders met with local teachers to discuss what projects could most help Morrito, and they agreed that a new library and computer center topped the list.

Through Engineers Without Borders, we learned of a town in Nicaragua called Morrito.  None of us had been there, but we had heard that the community was in pretty bad shape (see background materials below).  So this summer we took our first trip.  In short, we found a very poor fishing community with no industry to speak of, no library, and no municipal water supply.  So after visiting with the community we are planning to build a library and computer center when we visit during our January 2009 trip.  In time, we also hope to help with the water problem.  If you have any questions, ask me: david.reber

After a survey trip in August 2008 and a community meeting in September, BRIDGE Nicaragua has committed to filling this need.  The community has agreed to donate the land, labor, and future maintenance of the building.  With the volunteer work and financial contribution of concerned Americans just like you, we will build something together which will make the world a better place.
