moved recent message to bottom --Chriswaterguy 17:37, 20 May 2012 (PDT)

Hi Popok75,

Thanks for prompting me to look at permaculture wiki - that needed an update. I restored some of the deleted content (but fixed it up, blending it with your work) and updated some stats. (I got my stats on PermaWiki from their RC 30 days and statistics page - let me know if I'm in error.

It's a good that PermaWiki and Appropedia use the same license - if one doesn't continue, the content (with all the work that went into it) can be salvaged by someone else. (The Chaordic Permaculture Institute Pilot doesn't seem to use a Creative Commons license. I haven't gotten into the whole "chaordic" thing so I'm not sure if it's just about permaculture, or if there's something I'm missing - any idea?)

I'm looking forward to the Open Source Permaculture project getting underway in coming months - that should bring a lot more energy to this field.

Thanks again, and don't hesitate to drop a line. --Chriswaterguy 21:29, 19 May 2012 (PDT)

Welcome![edit source]

Hi Popok75,

Welcome to the Appropedia wiki. Please make yourself at home! If you need a general wiki-tutorial, see the main help page (or the more in-depth one on WikiEducator).

Check your preferences and be sure you verify your email address and turn on email notification if you'd like it -- you can find out when your talk page, or any page on your watchlist, is modified. You may want to upload a photo or information about yourself to your userpage (which is at User:Popok75).

If you have a particular interest or project in mind, go ahead and start it! If you have questions or suggestions, the best place to leave them is at our community discussion page, which we call the Village pump - you should get a fast response. Or, feel free to leave me a note on my talk page if you have further questions, need help finding your way around, have a cool idea for a project, or just want to chat.

Glad to have you here!

Hi Chriswaterguy,

I hope I didn't destory everything, and happy to see so fast reaction and update. I have big interest in the issue, I am also convinced that appropedia is the way to go, even though it doesn't say how.

Yes, merging somehow with PermaWiki would be a great benefit. I am not sure also of what's worth to take from the Chaordic wiki. Is these the only open-source initiatives worth to consider ? I will look into that question.

Yes, I'm also looking forward to the open-source urban permaculture book, but not sure I will have the patience to wait few months to bring my energy to this field.

My opinion about the content is that we should follow Mollison's book "Permaculture Design Manual", the most consensual as permaculture reference.

...but I am not even sure that I am writing in the right place, how messages are supposed to work on this wiki ?!?...

Hi again,
No, your edits were helpful. Don't worry too much about destroying things - wikis can easily be fixed :-).
PermaWiki is on Wikia which is commercial - we've talked with them before, and we don't see any way to merge with a Wikia wiki while holding to our vision, unfortunately.
Don't feel you have to wait, of course - you can dive in right now! Great to see your energy.
Re where to leave messages, the convention is to leave new messages at the bottom. It's usually good to leave a note on the other person's talk page saying something like "I replied on my talk page" but this time I was watching recent changes, so I saw your reply.
Agreed about Mollison's book. Gotta run, but I'm happy to see you here. --Chriswaterguy 17:37, 20 May 2012 (PDT)
Hi,
Thanks for the tips.
I don't get why is PermaWiki not mergeable ? It is using the same syntax with creative common content like here. Do you need additional Wikia permission ? I am sure that PermaWiki guys would be happy to move into a larger platform.
