Hello, I am Oblo. I am a First Year undergraduate at Cal Poly Humboldt majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I am currently in Engineering 123 and 205, in which I will be undertaking a semester long project with a client that I will find out in a weeks time.
My Interests:
[edit | edit source]My interests revolve in the realms of engineering and art, including the designing and making of clothing, the construction of gismos and gadgets, and use of different 3d programs and interests in engineering based sandbox video games.
Clothing:
[edit | edit source]I have for a while had a lot of interest in making clothes, but I found it daunting and strangely unfulfilling to have something printed for me through a third party site. They are great for mass orders and making, but for something for me it seemed too expensive and not worth it. Then at the start of the semester, (Spring 2025) I gained access to the makerspace, which finally let me fulfill my ideas and allowed me to get a spur of motivation that I have been riding to start creating things! I have not done a lot yet, only some test prints and a partially finished sweatshirt, but I am already excited about the things that I am going to be able to make!
Gismos, Gadgets, and Gaming:
[edit | edit source]Introduction to Engineering:
[edit | edit source]Ever since a young age I have been gaming, starting of with World of Warcraft and Minecraft which I played with my parents (shout out them for being cool). I loved them, they (Minecraft specifically) allowed me to enter an unseen before world of creativity with endless ways to express myself. I firmly believe this helped shape me and made me better at problems solving, the same kind that engineering so firmly revolves around. In Minecraft there is no one solution for a problem, just like the real world, allowing for me to develop an advanced cost benefit sense of analysis which helps me to this day.
Evolution in Gaming
[edit | edit source]Eventually I moved on from Minecraft to better and brighter engineering horizons. I still love Minecraft and play it to this day, but in 2021 I was introduced to a game that would go on to shape the next couple years of my life, if not my whole life. Stormworks: Build and Rescue is a physics and vehicle simulation game that lets you make and design vehicles, both externals and the internals. This process often takes hours of work just to make a basic vehicle, let alone a good looking and functioning one. This game captivated me, finally I had a creative outlet that let me explore my love and passion for vehicles and things that move, a passion that I still hold today and is the reason I am an engineer.
