Hello! After 22 years of working in Safety and Private Security, I'm back in school studying Energy Systems Engineering. The more society expects us to have and use technology, the more we need to have access to energy, the more we need energy access resilience.
I have a little experience installing retail-available security camera systems, I have some experience creating patch cables and running Nomex, I have experience making personal scale radio communications antennas for GMRS and Amateur Radio bands. Before finally returning to school in 2021, I've gotten my tech education from watching YouTube instructional videos, reading tech project how-to books and magazines, and hands-on moments helping others in unofficial, almost entirely unpaid capacities.
Two of my hobbies include volunteering with my local CERT and tinkering with crafts.
Star Wars isn't as much of a hobby as it is a passion.
Interests in Appropriate Technology
[edit | edit source]My interests lie in:
- Wind energy generation
- Solar Energy generation
- Industrial Energy storage
- Home-based Energy generation and storage
- Renewable energy
- Aquaponics systems (for community and individual resilience)
Experience in Appropriate Technology
[edit | edit source]I have comfortable experience working with the following technology -
- Digital Multimeters
- Basic Radio Communications (Amateur Radio Tech and GMRS licensed)
- Using AI as information processing and gathering, including checking its work for accuracy
- PV System Installation on a Residential Scale
- Basic modern construction tools
- Disassembly of PC Hardware including HDD and CD Rom drives, for harvesting parts
- Some of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
- Assembling Raspberry Pi 4 boards for mini computers and small servers (Hardware primarily, I still struggle with the programming)
- Retail available camera and security systems installation, using pre-2015 technology
