A window to my world

It's kind of surprising to me that as a senior here at Clarion University,I have never done this kind of thing before. This may be hit or miss, but I'm hoping either way I learn something from it. Even learning the basics would do because I currently know nothing.

A little bit about who I am[edit | edit source]

As I said I am a senior here at Clarion. My major is Secondary Education, Earth and Space Science. Earth science became interesting to me in high school, because my teacher was so passionate about it. My goal as far as my career goes is to hopefully help someone discover that they to have an interest in a field, that they may not have considered. With regard to that, I don't even care if the field is something that I can teach them more about. If i can inspire one person to follow their dream, then I feel that I have succeeded in my goal.

Interests[edit | edit source]

When it comes to my personal life I have some very unique interests. My first one is that I learned to unicycle about two years ago. as far as I know I am the only person at Clarion University that does this. Unicycling took me about four hours to get the basic hang of. It never fails that every time I am out riding it around campus somebody stops to ask questions or make smart remarks. Unicycling was taught me to be very quick on my feet with returning their comment with some wise crack to leave them speechless. This past summer I took about three weeks and taught my ten year old little brother to ride a unicycle as well.

Next in my fun and exciting talents come juggling. I was introduced into juggling by my friend Zach, that I live and work with in the summer. Once I had the basic pattern I spent about an hour each day of last school year figuring out new patterns. I could have bought a book or DVD, but I thought I would learn more about the timing if I tried it on my own. Since then I have created quite a few of my own patterns.

Finally the newest acquired talent, is obtaining the ability to solve the Rubik's Cube. This one started this past summer. I had help from a friend showing me a few steps. Once I came back to school it became an obsession. My current personal best time is 56 seconds. I enjoy the cube because it is all about spatial relations between the faces of the cube which I'm sure fits in physics somewhere.

Energy and Environment[edit | edit source]

As an earth science major, everything I will be teaching relates either directly on indirectly to the environment. In addition to that I am an outdoor enthusiast. Being in the outdoors pretty much my whole life had taught me a lot about just how delicate the balance is between use and abuse. I feel that if we are more careful we are going to destroy the only place we can call home. One the topics I am beginning to be very interested in is hybrid and alternate fuel vehicles. My boss from the summer is currently replacing some of our work vans with hybrid vehicles. Sure this is partially a financial thing, with the price of gas being so high, but another big part is that we are in the "green industry". I work for a lawn care and landscape company, and our livelihood depends on keeping our immediate environment healthy.
