Biography[edit | edit source]

My name is MirAli Ghassemi, and I was born in Iran. After graduating from high school with a mark of 19.2/20, I attended the Nationwide University Exam called KONKOOR in 2019. KONKOOR is held each year for candidates from all over Iran. I was among the TOP 1 per cent. Because of my outstanding performance, I was awarded free education and I decided to study Energy Engineering at one of the top universities in Iran: Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic).

During my study, I expanded my knowledge and skills through various online courses (e.g. Coursera). I took courses on Programming, ML, MATLAB, Economics, etc. I was so appealed by MATLAB I devised a course to teach on Adobe Connect platform with the support of the university. There was a great turn-up (40+ attendees). I covered different topics such as Syntax, Data Visualization, Solving Equations, etc.

I am especially interested in interdisciplinary fields. And since I was interested in Economics, I pursued a minor in Economics alongside my major courses. The minor consists of 5 courses: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, and two elective courses.

P2P (Peer-to-Peer) and open source applications also interest me. They are more efficient, faster, and they extend accessibility to broader users. So, why not apply them to the energy sector? My Final Project is entitled "Blockchain Application in Energy Trading". This is an ongoing project, and I'm already fascinated by how the blockchain works!

I was selected as an exchange student for the term Fall 2022-23. I will be attending Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. I was awarded full tuition waive. I will study some courses on Economics as well as Renewable Energies.

B.Sc.[edit | edit source]

I am studying Energy Engineering at Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic), Tehran, Iran. Also, I am studying Economics as a minor. My GPA is 3.84/4.0 and I'm the 3rd top student by GPA in my class.

B.Sc. Final Project[edit | edit source]

This project entitled "Blockchain Applications in Energy Trading" aims to provide an overview on applications of blockchain technology in the energy sector, specifically energy trading. Dr. Saeed Talebi supervises this project.

International Internship (IAESTE)[edit | edit source]

I'm currently a Research Assistant (RA) with Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal, India. I'm working on modelling (Simulink) and improving Vienna Rectifier used in fast charging EV stations under supervision of Prof. Jayalakshmi N. S.

Electricity Demand Modeling Based on Weather Data Using ML[edit | edit source]

  • Collected weather data from the web using Python
  • Pre-Processed data (missing value, interpolation, integration, etc.)
  • Visualized data (Grouped plots, distribution plots, etc.)
  • Applied Machine Learning algorithms on data to relate weather data to electricity consumption

  • Used Finite Element Method to Model the heat transfer from a cylinder on MATLAB

  • Reviewed (almost) all energy storage methods (Mechanical, Electrochemical, etc.)
  • Explored and cited more than 100 papers
