John L. Dutton is a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College and Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, where he graduated with Distinction in Medical Innovation and Entrepreneurship. John has an extensive business background through his prior experience starting 2 medical companies. Throughout medical school, John was heavily involved with his Global Surgery Department. John's exposure to global surgery and various surgical healthcare system improvement projects has fostered a desire to seek a career in advocating for health system strengthening in under resourced settings with the exciting outlook of discovering innovative solutions to pervasive global healthcare problems. John is a current General Surgery Resident at Rutgers University and has recently decided to take 2 years away from his training to complete a Global Surgery Fellowship with Operation Smile. Through the fellowship, John has taken on several projects that range from large, multi-national health system strengthening efforts, the design of educational efforts to broaden the skills of general surgery providers in low resource settings and helped lead changes in organizational strategy regarding patient health records and supply chain management. John plans to continue a career in general surgery with a focus in minimally invasive surgery. He is excited to utilize the professional growth he has gained throughout his Global Surgery Fellowship to further engage in health system strengthening work where he hopes to develop innovative ideas to decrease barriers to surgical healthcare amongst the most vulnerable populations throughout the world.
