Bio
[edit | edit source]My name is Demar Tobey, but most people call me Gus. I am studying Mechanical Engineering at Cal Poly Humboldt. I like 3D design, 3D printing, cars, drones, robots, basketball, fishing, art, fashion and anything mechanical. I enjoy fixing anything from cars to appliances to computers. I like reading. Books I have enjoyed recently are 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami, The Genealogy of Morals by Friedrich Nietzsche, and Chaos: Making a new Science by James Gleick.
Professional Information
[edit | edit source]Career Experience:
[edit | edit source]Auto Technician:
[edit | edit source]As an automotive technician at a Euro-focused shop, I became experienced with diagnosis and repair of multiple manufacturers, foreign and domestic, specializing in convertible top and sunroof repair as well as Volkswagen and Audi products. This position involved top-to-bottom repair: diagnosis, parts sourcing, repair, and delivery/reporting. In many cases custom solutions were required.
Assistant Exhibit Fabricator:
[edit | edit source]Working as assistant exhibit fabricator at a children's science museum was a position for which I am very grateful. From a young age, I accompanied my father who worked as the chief exhibit fabricator for a children's science museum. This meant I was exposed to and participated in design, design presentation, iteration, and fabrication at a high level workshop from a young age. I spent many summers and afternoons working with my dad and building personal projects in the expansive workshop. I did things like assembling and repairing an Allosaurus fossil and helping design and build exhibits that thousands of children interact with and learn from every day.
