I am an exchange student in Cal Poly Humboldt (HSU) from Brazil. My major is Environmental Engineering and I created this page in order to complete an assignment of ENGR 305: Appropriate Technology, and hopefully to share some information about the project that me and my group will develop for this course.

Interests in Appropriate Technology[edit | edit source]

  • Be able to create something useful and appropriate, using the knowledge acquired during my coursework in Environmental Engineering.

Experience in Appropriate Technology[edit | edit source]

  • Research assistance in a project at Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil

Research about filling biological filters used in wastewater treatment plants with sponge instead of gravel. The sponge is a better biofilm for bacteria than gravel, which increases the efficiency of the nitrogenous decomposition by the microorganisms.

  • Data collection and analysis at State Foundation for the Environment (FEAM), Minas Gerais, Brazil

Logistic Study of the State of Minas Gerais to make cities located next to each other geographically work together in order to give an appropriate final destination for their urban solid waste. Link to some results of the project: http://www.feam.br/minas-sem-lixoes/gestao-compartilhada-de-sru
