Past[edit]

  • Reduction of Harmonics & Reactive Power Compensation Using Auto-Tuned Passive Filters Based on TSC-TSR Controllers (Jan '11 to Apr '11)
    • The final year project was based on F.A.C.T.S devices used for tackling major Power Quality issues such as Harmonics and Reactive Power. The Controller used was a Thyristor Switched Capacitor –Thyristor Switched Reactor to mitigate harmonics of order 5,7,11 and 13. The filters were designed and tested using Simulink. Simulation of these filters in a system showed lesser current consumption and better power quality than those shown by passive filters. In Hardware, a pulse generation scheme had been implemented using analog circuits. The circuit was designed and tested using NI-Multisim. The circuit was later implemented on a Printed Circuit Board. Testing results showed firing of thyristors accurately.
  • Feedback control for FC TCR acting as a Reactive Power Compensator (Aug '11 to Oct '11)
    • This project was based on F.A.C.T.S devices used for tackling major Power Quality issues. The Controller used was a Fixed Capacitor –Thyristor Switched Reactor to mitigate harmonics of order 5,7. The filters were designed and tested using Simulink. Simulation of these filters in a system showed lesser current consumption and better power quality than those shown by passive filters.
