TissueDB/Tissues/Mucosa
(Redirected from TissueDB/Tissues/Vagina)
Mucosa is the innermost lining of hollow organs including the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, and reproductive system. It consists of an epithelial layer, lamina propria, and muscularis mucosae. In surgical simulation, mucosa is relevant for procedures involving bowel anastomosis, endoscopic techniques, and tubal surgery, where its texture, colour, and moisture content affect visual and tactile fidelity.
Materials
| Material | Visual | Tactile | Simulator | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paper lined with aluminium foil | - | - | Cervical Cancer Screening Simulator, Thermal Ablation Simulator | Foil-lined paper cylinder representing the vaginal sidewalls, placed over the cervix model with the non-foil end next to the cervix. The foil conducts the augmented-feedback signal, and the same canal serves as the conductive surface for the companion Thermal Ablation Simulator's circuit. |
| Laerdal airway management trainer (commercial manikin) | – | – | Suction-Assisted Laryngoscopy and Airway Decontamination Simulator (Kumar) | The manikin's life-like oral cavity and hypopharynx are the access route and the contaminant-collection space the trainee suctions during SALAD practice.[1] |
| Silicone (shore hardness per layer not stated in source) | - | - | Cleft Palate Repair Simulator (Nicholas) | Three separate palate mucosal layers are cast in silicone on the reusable 3D-printed VeroWhite cranio-facial skeletal base, as part of the disposable cartridge: the hard-palate mucoperiosteum — the layer raised in the vomerine mucoperiosteal flap — and the oral and nasal surfaces of the soft palate. The source varies shore hardness to mimic each tissue but gives no specific values.[2] |
