TissueDB/Materials/Turkey Brachial Artery
Turkey brachial artery is an animal artery harvested from turkey wings, used in low-cost microsurgical bypass simulation as a tissue-simulating substitute for the superficial temporal artery (STA) — the donor vessel in extracranial-to-intracranial bypass. Its use in TissueDB originates with the Akdag et al. (2024) STA–MCA bypass trainer, where turkey brachial artery (STA donor proxy) is paired with chicken brachial artery (MCA-M4 recipient proxy), a 3D-printed cranial model, and an aquarium-pump-driven circulating reservoir to recreate the haptic and flow environment of an end-to-side cerebral bypass anastomosis.
Tissues
| Tissue | Visual | Tactile | Simulator | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Superficial Temporal Artery | Partial | Partial | STA-MCA Bypass Trainer | Donor vessel substitute for end-to-side anastomosis in cerebral bypass practice. Turkey wing brachial artery selected for its slightly larger calibre, approximating STA diameter. |
Used In Simulators
| Simulator | Purpose | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| STA-MCA Bypass Trainer | Donor artery (STA proxy) for microsurgical end-to-side anastomosis practice. Paired with chicken brachial artery as MCA-M4 recipient proxy. |
