File:Adult and pediatric airway anatomy (OpenCriticalCare WHO).png
Labelled comparison of the paediatric and adult upper airway, numbering the six anatomical differences that make paediatric airway management distinct: tongue size relative to the mouth, a floppier U-shaped epiglottis, upward-slanting vocal cords, a more anterior and superior larynx, the cricoid as the narrowest part of the child's airway, and a narrower, less rigid trachea.
Used as the hero image on Paediatric Airway Management Trainer (Carter).
This is an anatomical reference, NOT a photograph of the Carter simulator. The Carter et al. (2020) source paper is published under SAGE permissions-only terms, so its own figures cannot be reproduced here. This diagram is included as a visual analogue of the anatomy the trainer is built to teach, following the precedent set on Vascular Anastomosis Simulator (Cubas). It must never be captioned or cited as showing the simulator itself.
