Problem being addressed
Uterine atony occurs when the muscles of the uterus fail to contract back to normal position following cesarean birth. This can cause postpartum hemorrhaging, which is the leading cause of maternal mortality. The cost and complexity of most uterus atony treatments restrict them from being implemented outside of facilities in developed countries.
Detailed description of the solution
The uterine compression clamp compresses the uterus in order to simulate manual contraction of the uterus and prevent hemorrhaging. It is inexpensive and can be used on three settings, each corresponding to different pressure levels.
