This semester, I worked on the the Recyclebot V5.1 project with Colton Nelson, Dylan Mercier and Matthew Lekity. I focused my work on the mechanical aspects of the cold end of the machine. One of our main goals was to re-engineer and improve the work done previously on the Recyclebot V5. This was more of a challenge due to the lack of documentation and records kept on the older model. It was concluded that the machine would be significantly more efficient whilst equipped with more automated capabilities. The Recyclebot V5 consisted of many pulleys and other systems designed to extrude, bend and spool filament. It was brought to our attention that some of these pulleys could be replaced with a more automatic-friendly design. This allows for the ability to start the machine, and extrude filament without the need of human supervision. Due to the circumstances with COVID-19 and the stay at home order, our team was unable to complete this project. However, everything that could be done virtually was done as appropriate. During the quarantine, I worked in CAD to develop parts for the cold end of the Recyclebot V5.1. Parts and assemblies are shown below.
