I'm one of Appropedia's newest [[Appropedia:Travel_Internships|Travel Interns]] and I'm excited to be traveling around Mexico to record appropriate technology projects.  I can't wait to learn about your projects and to help out where I can with your work.

==My Role With Appropedia==
I am both honored and excited to be involved with Appropedia!  
Beginning in August 2010 I will be visiting intentional/green communities and projects in Mexico.  
My goals are:

# To document positive functional aspects of the community /project to post on Appropedia. These aspects may be technological, social, or structural, etc.
# To assess if these places are an appropriate fit for the project described below.
#* Appropedia intends to establish a program that would link travelers with communities or projects focused around appropriate technology and intentional living.  Travelers would be given an opportunity visit their country or region of interest and to have an in-depth experience there with an intentional community or appropriate technology project.  As an alternative to volunteer travel programs in which the volunteers are contributing labor, Appropedia volunteer travelers would be asked to make contributions to the Appropedia database, updating older entries or creating primary documentation about the community they are visiting.

== Life Experience ==
*Helped design, test, and build a straw and clay slip wall with recycled glass bottles for CCAT's greens shed at HSU [https://www.appropedia.org/CCAT_Clay-straw_slip_wall].
*Took Lonny Grafman's Engineering 305 class learning about microhydro, solar panels, rainwater catchment, grey water systems, and electricity.  
* Currently in the Chiapas Program taking Engineering 114 and 480 with Lonny.

== Experience in Appropriate Technology ==
*EXPERIENCE #1 Geodesic Bamboo Dome Green House, I helped build a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geodesic_dome geodesic dome] based on the design by Buckminster Fuller [http://web.archive.org/web/20100505072912/http://www.bfi.org:80/our_programs/who_is_buckminster_fuller].  '''[[Bamboo]]''' were latched together in hexagons made out of triangles, this design helped keep tension in the structure even without an earthen filler.  A Plastic cover was fixed around it to keep in moisture and act as a green house in our garden.  It was light weight, cheap to make, easy labor, and could be deconstructed and reconstructed at other sites with the same materials.

*EXPERIENCE #2 Chickens and Ducks integrated into a [http://web.archive.org/web/20100603083856/http://www.urbanecoist.com:80/planning-your-urban-garden-pollution-tolerant-perennials/ Perennial Urban Garden] at home.  We have two fruit trees as well as blueberry and service berry bush, artichokes, and herbs.  The chickens keep our lawn trimmed, they fertilize our soon to be garden, help prepare the spring garden by scratching it up with their claws, and help control the slug population in the yard.  The great thing about urban chickens and ducks is that we don't have to worry about raccoons or wolves the same as those out in the country.  We give the chickens scraps collected from restaurants around town and in exchange receive the tastiest eggs.

*EXPERIENCE #3 [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=737EfIydJ5Y&feature=fvw Recycled Art] and Ceramics for the Garden. For recycled art I've made chimes out of chains and pipes, sculptures out of welded bike parts, blades, cans, plastic bottles and bags, and Christmas ornaments.  For ceramics for the garden I've made a [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxQXtQwlcEs subterranean watering jug] that is buried in the earth with only a hole exposed for filling with water.  The clay has been fired without glaze thus it is porous enough for water to seep through and slowly water the adjacent plants for you over a long period.  I've also made an indoor [http://www.mitra.biz/howto_herbspiral.htm herb spiral] (when I thought I was going to live in an apartment), the herb spiral utilizes vertical space, as well as optimizes on the different drainage and sunlight needs of different herbs.
