The Sydney 2000 Summer Olympic Games'' were billed as the "Green Olympics".
The site was Homebush Bay, a 760 hectare disused industrial site which needed extensive remediation.
Solar power was used for the athletes' village.
All packaging for food sold onsite was compostable,[verification needed] meaning greener waste management for this large-scale event, and reducing landfill.
