::*"Subpages were originally used on Wikipedia to differentiate between subjects to create topical hierarchies of articles, but this proved unworkable because articles tend to belong in more than one hierarchy. The present system of disambiguation was adopted instead, and the Wikipedia:Do not use subpages policy had to be rigorously enforced, as well as retroactively applied. As of 2010[update], the category system supports hierarchical organization while still allowing an article to belong to multiple categories."Wikipedia:Subpages#History of subpages

::Presumably as Appropedia grows it would tend to run into the same problem with article subpages that Wikipedia did: editors trying to use subpages like unavoidably rigid one-dimensional categories. Subpages are useful in other namespaces (such as Template:, User:, Portal:, and Project:), where hierarchy is typically more straightforward. --Teratornis 14:06, 28 January 2011 (PST)

:::The main way that appropedia uses article subpages is for projects and classes.  These types of articles are one of the main conceptual differences between appropedia and wikipedia, i.e. original research and collaborative projects.  For example, I have used article subpages for assignments for a class and meeting notes from a collaborative meeting (see Community Created Humboldt/Jan 23 10 for the most egregious example (subsubpages!)).  I think that they have been very useful for us in a way that is different from Wikipedia's need.  Thoughts?  --Lonny 14:17, 28 January 2011 (PST)
