Hello! My name is Hunter Blocchi. I study environmental science and management at California Polytechnic University, Humboldt. I am interested in ecological restoration. I hope to do my part on the front lines, battling the effects of climate change, by developing sound and effective restoration plans.

Interests in Technology and the Environment[edit | edit source]

I am interested in combatting environmental degradation via applied restoration ecology. Some of the ecosystems types which I hope to preserve and restore are coastal wetlands, coastal dune habitats, and riparian areas.

Experience in Technology and/or the Environment[edit | edit source]

I have absolutely no applied experience other than volunteer invasive species removal, invasive species surveys, plankton sampling, and beach profile surveying. The majority of my experience comes from covering theory in coursework and the occasional educational excursion.

One of my most favorite experiences was volunteering with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Park Service (Channel Islands). We sampled for plankton and organic material levels along the California Coastal Current, near the Channel Islands. One of the best conservation success stories from that area is the perpetuation of the island fox, a species endemic to the Channel Islands.

Here is a picture of the cute island fox, no bigger than a small house cat.
