Summary

Description (for disaster preparedness theme): Supported by REAAP, micro basins and soil and stone bunds, completed by CMDRR committees in Oda Roba Kebele, Oda Bultum Woreda, are part of natural resources management and soil and water conservation activities to conserve natural resources. This conservation work will be re-enforced by planting tree seedlings from community nursery sites to increase community resilience to climate related shock. Multi-purpose trees such as fruit, fodder, firewood and indigenous drought tolerant trees are produced in the nursery site. The basins and bunds combined with these community produced trees, will reduce rain water run-off during heavy rain fall, allow rain water to infiltrate in the soil, recharge the water table and retain soil moisture for longer period of time to increase biomass production, landscape restoration and watershed management. Multi-purpose trees such as fruit, fodder, firewood and indigenous drought tolerant trees are produced in the nursery site. The photograph was taken by CRS REAAP staff during field monitoring visit in April 2016 in Oromia Regional State of Western Hararghe. REAAP Implementer and partners are: Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Ethiopian Catholic Church Social Development Coordination Office of Harar (ECC-SDCOH), Handicap International (HI) and Catholic Organization for Relief and Development Aid (Cordaid).
