• The Virgin Earth Challenge^W sponsored by Al Gore and Richard Branson, offers a prize of USD 25 million (EUR19.2 million at the time of offer) to any individual to come up with a commercially viable system for removing at least 1 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year from the Earth's atmosphere.
• Grainger Challenge Prize for Sustainability (run by the United States National Academy of Engineering^W (NAE) supported by the Grainger Foundation).
