Vacuum Ejector.

Vacuum Ejector

Project

Vacuum is widely used in various laboratory experiments. Vacuum is commonly used in applications such as filtration, degassing, and condensation. Most of modern fume hoods are equipped with vacuum ejectors generated by water current. The water current can generate relatively low vacuum pressure and easily adjust the degree of power. However, there is a risk of water leaking into system that may lead to a failure experiment, especially in filtration. Therefore, the air current is preferred than the water current for vacuum ejector. This project is manufacturing vacuum ejector by 3D printing (FDM) as one-body design. The material was selected as ABS which is performance an excellent mechanical properties such as stiffness, toughness and impact strength.

Designer

Phan Huy Nguyen, Aalto University, Department of chemical engineering

Bill of Materials

  1. Vacuum Ejector from ABS

Directions

  1. Download the design files from the NIH 3D Printing ExchangeIf modifications to the design is needed change the parameters found at the beginning of the openscad.
  2. After modifications, export STL-file.
  3. Use CURA software to print the models.

Estimated Costs

The material is common engineering plastic, ABS, is rather low price. The design can be scale up/down easily; hence, amount of used material is depend on the design. For standard design, the estimated cost of material is 3 Euros.
