The average American family of four uses 30 KWH of electricity per day (http://www.enviroalternatives.com/energy.html#Japan). Life Off the grid is definitely possibly, but not at the same wastefull level of consumption. If you want to cut your electric bill in half, the answer is not to spend your life savings on technology to generate 15 KWH/day. The answer is to use half as much electricity!!! Alternative energy can be of help, but it is not the sole answer.
