EasyPlay is a wireless buddy-button remote designed for individuals with cognitive and physical disabilities to control media playback accessibly. Individuals with special needs often encounter difficulties when using a regular remote control to access media players like the smart TV. EasyPlay provides pre-set functions and controls the device wirelessly via an internet connection or Bluetooth. Functions include:

  • Play/pause
  • Automatically start the favorite movie, pre-set through the website
  • Mouse clicks when it is in game mode.

This project is designed by Nicolas Folz, Alexander Gilchrist, Aly Ashour, Dylen Belanger, Harrison Belanger, and Sicheng Zhou. This website is written by Sicheng Zhou.

Physical Design[edit | edit source]

The electrical junction box had dimensions of 200mm 125mm 75mm. The size of this box can be scaled down to the minimum values of 120mm 120mm 60mm. A feasible maximum box size would be 300mm 200mm 75mm, which would allow for up to 4 buttons of size equal to ours (95mm 95mm) to be utilized. Our design is therefore variable, as it can be altered to best suit the client's needs. The design choices implemented in the prototype reflect our client's circumstances and consequent needs. Both our software and the size of our electrical components allow for the accommodation of more buttons (and therefore greater control over the media, for elements like volume) if desired.
