Open-Island is an ongoing project of the German NGO Positive Nett-Works and was inspired by German artist and designer Joy Lohmann in Hanover. From the first floating installation "future-raft" for the EXPO2000 world exhibition in Hanover, the floats developed into an modular open-source construction system, known as "Open-Island. The first construction system was released 2015 at the MakerFaire Ahmedabad. An upgraded hexagonal system was released 2018 at the MakerFaire Berlin.
