History[edit | edit source]
Zhytomyr Polytechnic is the only civilian engineering and technological education institution in Zhytomyr Oblast.
The university was established on the basis of the Order of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Ukrainian SSR dated March 11, 1960 No. 84 and the Order of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute ( 6>KPI). Students who worked at enterprises had to study at the faculty for three years, after which they had the opportunity to finish their studies at other institutions of higher education of Ukraine and the former Soviet Union. On September 1, 1960, the first 175 students began classes.
According to the recently adopted official version, the university considers itself the successor of the Volyn Polytechnic Institute, founded in 1920, but this version is open to doubt.
The faculty started working in the premises of Zhytomyr Pedagogical Institute. The training was conducted by 26 teachers, including 4 candidates of sciences. The candidate of economic sciences, assistant professorVasyl Ivanovich Anashkin was elected the first dean of ZTF.
At the beginning of the 1964-65 academic year, the total number of ZTF students was already 1,052, and the number of teachers was up to 39.
Since September 1966 the general technical faculty was located in a specially built four-story building on the street. Pushkinska, 44.
1967 year - an evening department is opened at ZTF for a full cycle of education in two specialties:
- engineering technology, metal cutting machines and tools;
- automation іtelemechanics.
1969 year - the construction of a part of the educational and laboratory building on the street was completed. Chudnivska 103, where part of the departments and laboratories were transferred.
By order of the Ministry of Education Ukrainian SSR No. 192-1 dated 26.11.74 ZTF from January 1 1975 reorganized into Zhytomyr Branch Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
During the period of the most active formation of the profile of the branch and the construction of its main premises, the dean of ZTF, and then the first director of the branch from 1966 to 1976, was a candidate of technical sciences, associate professor < a i=2>B. H. Bazhenov.
In 1976-1979, the director of the branch was candidate of technical sciences, associate professor V. S. Severilov.
Since March 1979, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor B. B. Samotokina.
Twelve departments began to train specialists in seven specialties, and the average annual contingent of students was 620 people. The total teaching staff of the branch in those years, until its separation into an independent ZVO, was 129 teachers, of which 8 doctors of sciences (6.2%), 66 candidates of sciences (51.2%).
For 33 years, the branch has trained almost 5 thousand engineers-mechanicsfor the national economy of the country > and electrical engineers, more than 3 thousand correspondence students received general technical training at the branch.
Since 1983, the branch has started training electromechanical engineers in the specialty "Robotic systems and complexes< /span>".
In 1989, a physics and mathematics school was opened in the branch, which was later reorganized into the 1st City Lyceum under ZHITA.
Established in 1991 the faculty of pre-institute training united lyceum, a correspondence school of physics and mathematics, preparatory courses and a preparatory department for foreign students. The lyceum works according to physical and mathematical, engineering and technological, chemical and biological, economic and socio-legal profiles. Lyceum graduates receive a high level of training in English language, informatics, become students institutions of higher education of the country.
In 1993, the faculty of specialist retraining was created in the branch, and thus the reproduction of the continuous education system was completed. The faculty retrains specialists in specialties:
- accounting and auditing;
- management in the production sphere;
- software of computing and automated systems;
The faculty conducts advanced training of civil servants, managers of enterprises, institutions and organizations in matters of accounting, taxes, audits and auditing, information technologies, organization of economic and financial work of business entities. Provides training for the purpose of obtaining professions: accountant, < a i=11>computer operator, organizer of business activities.
Zhytomyr State University of Technology inherited the important scientific personnel of ZhF KPI and ZHITI. These are doctors of science, professors Bakka M.T., Butynets F., Grabar I.H., Kovalenko M.V., Ovander L. M., Panishev A. V., Samotokin B.B., Plechystiy D.E., Mulyar V.I., Manoilov V.P., Mykhaylenko V.V., Moskvin P.P. and others.
Until the establishment of the Zhytomyr Institute of Engineering and Technology, students were trained at two full-time faculties:
- mechanical engineering and management;
- of information and computer technologies.
On April 2, 1994, by Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 212 on the basis of the Zhytomyr branch of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute the Zhytomyr Engineering and Technological Institute was founded ( LIFE).
In 1995 the faculty of economics and management. Currently, students of this faculty have the opportunity to receive higher education in three specialties:
- "Accounting and Auditing"
- "Business Economics"
- "Management of Organizations".
In 2000, the Faculty of Mining and Ecology was established, which trains highly qualified specialists in the fields of: 0903 Mining and 0708 and, accordingly, by specialty: "Ecology"
- "Development of mineral deposits"
- "Surveying case"
- "Ecology and environmental protection".
Since 2000 the institute has been headed by candidate of technical sciences, associate professor Petro Melnychuk. Many positive changes have taken place during this time. The number of students has increased significantly. Nine specialties were accredited at the institute, and twelve were licensed at IV level.

Recently, international relations have increased significantly.
A lot of attention is paid to the reconstruction of the university. A facade according to the European standard, two modern tennis courts were built.
The sports hall has been restored. The construction of the stadium and the new building of the scientific and methodological center has begun.
March 26 2019 in accordance with order Ministry of Education and Culture of Ukraine No. 397 regarding the renaming of ZHTU, the name of the institution was changed from Zhytomyr State University of Technology to Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University.
On September 2, at the plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, a resolution was adopted to celebrate at the state level the hundredth anniversary of the founding of the Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University.
In September 2020, the State University "Zhytomyr Polytechnic" together with representatives of the Norwegian government signed an agreement on the rehabilitation of the participants of the ATO/OOS.
On July 29, 2021, an interactive museum of science and technology "Polytechnic" was created at Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University. Currently, the museum displays 30 exhibits, with the help of which visitors can independently check the working principles of the laws of nature. The student laboratory of mechatronics "MechLab" is directly involved in the creation of museum exhibits, starting from the idea and drawings, ending with the implementation. The interactive museum presents exhibits in the following thematic areas: mechanics, optics, electricity, magnetism, logic, acoustics.
Zhytomyr Polytechnic took 53rd place in the "Top-200 Ukraine" rating, and 2nd place among the "Best Higher Education Institutions of the Northern Region of Ukraine". Among the best educational institutions of Zhytomyr, "Zhytomyr Polytechnic" took first place in 2022.

Higher vocational school[edit | edit source]
The Higher Vocational School of the Zhytomyr State Technological University was established as the Zhytomyr Technical School No. 4 in accordance with the Order of the State Committee of the Ukrainian SSR on Vocational and Technical Education No. 1 dated January 2, 1974, for the training of personnel of the newly built automatic machine tool plant in /span>. Since 1984 the school has been training workers with full general secondary education.
In 1990, the school received the status of higher professional school No. 17 of the city of Zhytomyr according to the order of the Ministry of Public Education of the Ukrainian SSR dated 07/16/1990 No. 158.
In 2003 according to the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated 30.05.2003 No. 335, the school was attached to the Zhytomyr State University of Technology by creation of a separate structural unit within it - the Higher Vocational School of ZhDTU.

Center for post-graduate education and work with foreign students[edit | edit source]
Advanced training of Ukrainian citizens was conducted at the Zhytomyr State Technological University almost from the moment of its opening in 1960, as a general technical faculty of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Initially, these were four-month preparatory courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, Ukrainian and Russian languages for entrants to higher education institutions. This form of training for students was opened in 1961 and is still being conducted.
From October 2003 to July 2009, the faculty of higher education was headed by Prylypko Oleksandr, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Higher Mathematics Ivanovich
In July 2009, the faculty of pre-university training of ZhDTU was reorganized into a preparatory department, which since August 2009 is headed by associate professor Prylypko Oleksandr Ivanovych.
In October 2013, the preparatory department of ZHTU was reorganized into the Center for Post-University Education and Work with Foreign Students (CDORIS), which is entrusted with the following functions: preparation of Ukrainian citizens for admission to higher education institutions, preparation of foreign citizens for admission to higher education institutions (the specified educational service in the licensing stage) and passport and visa work with foreign citizens studying at the university in basic areas and specialties.
Today, the Center for Postgraduate Education of the Zhytomyr Polytechnic prepares Ukrainian citizens to take external independent assessment tests in evening and Saturday preparatory courses.
The Center for Postgraduate Education actively engages in campaigning and career guidance work among 11th grade students, providing future applicants with all the necessary information for admission to the Zhytomyr Polytechnic.
Center of postgraduate education[edit | edit source]
The Faculty of Specialist Retraining (FPS) as a structural unit of the Zhytomyr State University of Technology was created in 1993 . This made it possible to improve the organization of the educational process, educational -methodical and scientific work of departments that provide retraining and advanced training of specialists of various levels.

2009 the Faculty of Retraining of Specialists was reorganized into the Postgraduate Education Center (TSP). The duties of the head of the center were assigned to the candidate of economic sciences, associate professor Vakalyuk Vyacheslav Anatoliyovych. Since March 2012, candidate of economic sciences, associate professor Ostapchuk Tetyana Petrivna has been appointed head of the center.
