Hello! My name is Jimena Gamero. I am a student at Cal Poly Humboldt, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I was born in Peru and grew up in San Mateo, California. Through high school I grew a deep interest for maths, physics, and computer science. They were my absolute favorite classes to be in. I took an internship in high school at Stanford University where I learned to code an algorithm using neural networks that would classify telescope radiation data. I attended San Diego State University, majoring in Aerospace Engineering for one and a half years and decided to transfer to Cal Poly Humboldt as a Mechanical Engineer in 2023. At Cal Poly, I've gained skills on using power tools, presenting projects, and working creatively and diligently in groups. I am very interested to continue my engineering courses and learning more about different aspects of engineering that I could apply myself to. Currently I am most interested in using computer science and programming to advance engineering applications in the real world. Other things I've been interested in as possible directions to take in my career are bioengineering, astronautical engineering, materials engineering, or water quality. This semester (spring 2024) I've been active in MidPac, ASCE Mid-Pacific Student Water Treatment Competition, competing with other schools in research, design, presentation, and hands-on construction of a water filter.
