I am a first year Mechanical Engineering student at Michigan Technological University and I'm considering a minor in either Electrical Engineering or Physics. I have always been fascinated by anything and everything electronic and mechanical. Taking things apart and modifying them to better fit my needs has always thrilled me, especially when nothing breaks. Recently I've been looking into building from scratch, specifically an mp3 player and/or a desktop computer, but have been restricted by a lack of funds. I am very excited by the prospect of getting involved with the Open Source Hardware Enterprise. I know I would much rather take the enterprise path than do a senior capstone project, but I have had trouble finding one to fit my interests in mechanical engineering and product design. I can also see the potential in the open source hardware movement. I believe it wont be long before every household has their own 3D printer, and I would love to be blazing that trail.

Interests[edit | edit source]

  • Robotics: Robots don't have to replace human workers. Humanity and robotics should work together in order to optimize productions.
  • Physics: The best of the sciences
  • Product Design Customization: The days of mass production are coming to an end. Soon everyone, no matter their skill, knowledge level, or credit score, will be able to acquire a perfectly customized product to fit their own needs and desires.
  • Learning: My classes so far have been somewhat disappointing in this department. Though I'm sure they will pick up, I'm eager to supplement my class room experiences.

Experience[edit | edit source]

  • Science Olympiad :I participated in Science Olympiad [1] from 2005-2012, and have completed at the regional, state, and national tournaments ever year since 2007 (and yes that is me on the national homepage banner).During my 7 years in Science Olympiad, I was able to travel to competitions all across the country, proudly serve my team and school as a captain, and earn over 50 medals. However, the most valuable part of those years was the experience I've gained in problem solving, electronics, and machining. Featured to the left is a robot designed in autodesk inventor and built from scratch in Grand Haven High School's shop.
  • Underwater ROV :As a leader of my high school engineering class' underwater ROV project I was able to gain some great experience.
