Elise Culbertson is a student at CalPoly Humboldt, studying Environmental Resources Engineering and minoring in Appropriate Technology. She is originally from the Oregon Willamette Valley, where her passion for nature, agriculture, and the outdoors began. Before coming to CalPoly, she attended College of the Redwoods where she obtained associate degrees in agriculture and science. She currently works for the Arcata Marsh Research Institute performing water quality assessments and developing a wetland vegetation composting program for the Arcata Wastewater Treatment Facility.

In her free time, Elise likes to garden, roller skate, go backpacking with her dog Taro, and laze at the river with her family. She is passionate about the sustainable growing of food and medicinal plants and is currently working on establishing her garden as a native pollinator and bird habitat.
