Amer obtained both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Western University in 2010 and 2015, respectively. In 2016, he was certified as a Professional Engineer's License (P.Eng) and, in 2019, as Project Management Professional (PMP). Lastly, he completed an Executive MBA Program in June 2022 from the Ivey School of Business. Currently, Amer is working towards a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering with research on "Development, testing and monitoring of a heat pump charged thermal batter system for residential space and water heating."

Amer started his professional career with Johnson Controls Canada LP in 2010 as an Equipment Project Specialist. His primary duties were to execute equipment projects profitably and to specified schedules. He was also in charge of creating detailed submittals according to project specifications and drawings. Lastly, he assisted in creating pre-sales estimates and proposals. In 2014, Amer was promoted to a Sr. Equipment Project Specialist.

In 2018, Amer was promoted to a newly created team as a Complex Projects Engineer. This team is comprised of approximately 20 engineers serving to execute the most complex projects in North America. In this role, his main responsibility was engineering but he was also the project manager on a key account (Bruce Power Nuclear Station). Amer assisted sales staff by selecting appropriate equipment for the project (in accordance with specifications and schedules) and guide design engineers with value engineering solutions. He was also the lead engineer for all Ford Motor Company projects in North America along with the Bruce Power Nuclear Station account.

In February 2022, Amer was promoted to the HVAC Equipment Operations Manager for Canada. He lead and managed a team of 23 members (7 direct reports) providing guidance, coaching and mentorship. He was also responsible for 12 branches across Canada, reporting out financial results to senior leadership.

Currently, Amer is back with the Complex Projects team acting as an Application Engineer for Large Tonnage Chillers.

Amer is a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) and Project Management Institute (PMI) groups.
