Dear Sir,

I understand your area of interest and i am interested in joining your Team. I have strong research ability and i have demonstrated it by applying control theory to robotics. I believe i will fit into team as i am a fast learner. Below is my statement of purpose and my preliminary reseach interest.

BABAJIDE SALAU

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

My decision to apply for a Doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Sustainable Energy Systems Engineering at TAMUK is driven by my aspiration to pursue a career in Renewable Energy systems and to contribute to reduction in global warming. Having had an objective analysis of my background, interests, and strengths, I am strongly motivated and believed that the next logical step in my career is to further my knowledge in Engineering by obtaining a Doctorate degree in Sustainable Energy Systems Engineering. This will afford me the privilege to contribute immensely by performing cutting edge research and harnessing new opportunities in the field.

Research topics of interest:

1. Grid Performance and Reliability: To develop intelligent system with high level functionality to maximize grid power output in a hybrid power system.

2. Electricity Network System: With focus on integration of distributed generations into distribution grid. 3. Application of model predictive control to enable matching variable generation to Adjustable Demand.

The passion for research began in my childhood. I was an inquisitive young man who was interested in seeking answers. When I was 6 years old, I loosened a wall switch with a knife in order to figure out the power source of an electric bulb. I was ranked top of my class in Elementary school, this guaranteed me admission to competitive Government College in City of Lagos. I excelled in mathematics and physics. As result of my outstanding performance; I was appointed a student mentor for new science students in my High school. Due to my extensive knowledge and interest I studied Electrical engineering at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology. My final year project involved the design and construction of Metal detection security system, which is based on principles of electromagnets. The outcome of this project provided me the opportunity to work with a Telematics (vehicle tracking) security company.

As a graduate student at Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK), I have won several scholarships. I was awarded a competitive tuition scholarship for summer 2014 and I am also a recipient of Frank Dotterweich College of Engineering $1000 scholarship for Fall 2014, Spring 2015 and Fall 2015, which qualifies me for In-state tuition fee. My current GPA is 4.0 (3.87 Cumulative).

I am currently a Teaching Assistant in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department at TAMUK, and I am also working on my research focused on Multi-Obstacles Avoidance for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in a non-cooperative environment. I have submitted in an IEEE supported conference proceeding (International Conference on Advanced Communication Control and Computing Technologies ).

Prior to my graduate studies, I worked for Cellstop Trackers Ltd for 4 years, where I resigned as Head of Technical. I was a Team leader for the Installation unit on the MTN FLEET project, where I was responsible for assigning installation, testing service, training MTN staffs and providing progress report from Planning to Completion phase of the project. Also, I was part of the team that engineered the development of a fuel level sensing and reporting module in 2012. My experience spanned across Database Management, Client support and Computer Networking, I am a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). Also, my work experience has strengthened me with ability to work on timely project with minimum supervision.

I attribute my continued success as a student, to the outstanding Electrical Engineering program at Texas A&M University in Kingsville. I appreciate the faculty members and robust curriculum. In order to acheive my goal in the PhD program. My ultimate career objective is to pursue a research career either as a Teaching faculty member in a school or as aresearch engineer in the industry.
