Sig-17 is a Special Interest Group of RESNA (Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America). This group provides a forum for individuals interested in internationally appropriate assistive technology.

The main focus of this group has been Project Sore Butts, an effort to address the problem of pressure ulcers as they affect individuals in developing countries. Sorebutts has also held several wheelchair cushion design contests. A paper presenting the results of the 2000 Cushion Design Contest contains information and images of several wheelchair cushions.

Sig-17 and Sorebutts have also started developing alternative and augmentative communication strategies and held a pressure sore prevention poster contestin 1996.
