How to use this checklist[edit | edit source]

This is a list of suggested resources to be expected when working with external organizations in order to deploy activities on the Appropedia platform. These materials contribute to shorten the learning curve for new users, adequately categorize the information provided by participants and lay the foundation for future collaborations.

Please note that these are general guidelines and every project must be assessed in an individual basis to prepare adequate resources.

Resource Creation Stages[edit | edit source]

In order to structure the project as clearly as possible, we suggest generating all needed resources under the following stages. Make sure to generate or adapt them (if they already exist) before proceeding to the next creation stage. To create these resources, additional and materials provided by the organizations, participants and Appropedia may be needed and is listed as such.

Not all of these resources will be necessary for all projects: only generate those that are better aligned to the main activity.

Project documentation

Once a project is approved and its activities are determined, the main project structure must be created. These pages will be the containers for all the information generated during the project, including participant profiles and organization profiles.

Terms of Use - Official Disclaimers[edit | edit source]

These terms will rule how the information generated during the project is intended to be used and interpreted, as well as the extent of Appropedia and the organization's liabilities regarding the consequences of using this information, among other considerations. This page requires:

  • Links to existing and relevant content disclaimers from Appropedia.
  • Links to existing and relevant content disclaimers from the organization involved.
  • If required, terms of use and legal disclaimers specifically formulated for the project.

Project portal page[edit | edit source]

This will be the main source of information for all related activites under the project. This portal requires:

  • Official project name and logo/icon. All media must be released under the relevant content licenses.
  • Organization official name and logo/icon. All media must be released by the organization involved under the relevant content licenses.
  • A brief description of the project, including the dates in which the activities will take place, location (if relevant), methodologies and goals.
  • Links to essential Appropedia help resources.
  • Links to organization related help outlets.

Project notice template[edit | edit source]

This image will appear at the top of any page related to the project. This resource requires:

  • Official project name and logo/icon. All media must be released under the relevant content licenses.
  • Organization official name.
  • Link to relevant disclaimers/terms of use.
  • Link to project portal page.

Team page

In case the project activities need to be executed by a team, a template for the participant's relevant professional and personal information must be created. This template requires:

  • Team name and logo/icon. All media must be released under the relevant content licenses.
  • A brief description of the team, its activities and goals.
  • A list of team members, their professions, skills and relevant professional affiliations.
  • Team photograph (and individual photographs, if required).
  • Team location.

Documentation page

This template will allow participants to document the information generated during project activities. This template requires:

  • A brief summary of the topic, including dates, location, actions and goals.
  • A description of the current problem, subject or context.
  • A description of the methodology applied.
  • Images, sounds, video or animation related to any processes, procedures, activities and results. All media must be released under the relevant content licenses.
  • A summary of the main findings or results.
  • Links to any relevant sources or references.

Device page[edit | edit source]

This template will allow participants to document the steps and resources needed to replicate any device created during project activities. This template requires:

  • A brief summary of the device, its uses, date of creation and the location where it was implemented for the first time.
  • A description of the current problem, subject and/or context.
  • A description of the design process.
  • A detailed list of materials needed for building the device, including average prices and availability at the time and place of creation.
  • Images, sounds, video or animation related to any processes, procedures, prototypes and results. All media must be released under the relevant content licenses.
  • A summary of the main findings or results.
  • Any relevant observation, warning or disclaimer.
  • Links to any relevant sources or references.
Knowledge base

A project may require specific learning or research resources, specially those of an academic nature. These pages will contain materials with any knowledge vital to the project activites.

Class resources page[edit | edit source]

If the project is executed as part of an academic course this page will contain essential materials for the students. These materials may include:

  • Links to relevant class syllabus
  • Links to lectures and presentations
  • Links to recommended readings
  • Links to recommended multimedia resources (videos, files, audios, images)
  • Links to external digital resources and tools.

Study guides page[edit | edit source]

This page will contain a summary of all aspects a student must master during a project executed as part of an academic course. This page may include:

  • A list of all topics to be covered previous to any assessment.
  • A list of activities to be completed during the project.
  • Links to visual guides and maps.
  • A skills checklist.
  • A quiz or text example
  • Additional information regarding deadlines or requirements

Toolbox page[edit | edit source]

Some participants may be new to the Appropedia platform. Since a wiki involves a high degree of resources and customization, the learning curve for new users may be steep. A dedicated page that solves this issue by narrowing essential help pages can be extremely beneficial. This page may include:

  • Links to Appropedia help articles about basic editing skills.
  • Links to Appropedia help articles about documentation methodologies.
  • Links to Appropedia help articles about education resources creation.
  • Links to Appropedia help articles about relevant digital tecnologies.
  • Links to Appropedia help articles about online work and collaboration.
  • Links to Appropedia tutorial videos or videos created by the organization.
Assessments

Some projects may require additional assessment of participant's skills and knowledge. These pages may be used to evaluate both individual and group progress during the project activities.

Onboarding

Before a project starts, participants may benefit from additiona resources that allow them to interact with the Appropedia platorm in a progressive manner and asking for help when needed.

This page will be the first interaction between participants and the project. As such, this page may include:

  • A brief welcome to both the project and the Appropedia platform.
  • A summary of the project activities and goals
  • A list of warm up activities to be completed in anticipation to the project.
  • A list of relevant help articles and tutorials.
  • Links to project templates and example pages to explore in anticipation to the project.
  • Links to essential Appropedia help resources.
  • Links to organization related help outlets.

Talk page[edit | edit source]

A dedicated talk page for a project allows participants to contact each other and and engage in collaborative problem solving. Its also a useful help hub for both Appropedia and the organization, where questions and inquiries can be solved in a quick manner.
