A schematic of a tram and a train rail in their trenches. The schematic was based on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tram_and_train_undercarriage.png . Light rail wheels were chosen to be in line with the latest trend in using these to allow the connecting of tram and train rail routes. Note that the last 2 rails (cut-off, fixated or CF) are designed by User:KVDP, based on the LR-55 rail. Unlike the LR-55, these rails can be created by modifying existing train/tram rails. The reclaimed metal from the cutting) can be either sold, or used to create new rails; both methods will help decrease the cost of improving/enlarging the rail network. Note also that these latter 2 rails are made by first using a mold off-site. This because workers in public contruction generally don't have the required precision to lay the tracks completely level. The use of a mold off-site will allow the use of more precise workers for this. The public construction workers will only need to dig out the trench and fill it partially with concrete; the edges can be done with a upside-down mold. This job does not require that much precision. The 2 concrete structures are not permanently secured; any remaining holes can be filled with sand; this to facilitate repair afterwards.
