Step-by-step instructions to upload your work to the open-access digital repository at Western University.

Logging In / Creating your Scholarship@Western Account[edit | edit source]

  1. Open the Western open-access page: https://ir.lib.uwo.ca/
  2. Click on "MY ACCOUNT"
    • If you already have an account login using your credentials
    • Otherwise, create your new account, it's FAST and easy (HINT : use you Western email address)

Accessing Your Department Repository[edit | edit source]

  1. Once in your account, look for Author Corner in the left pane
  2. Click on "Submit Research"
  3. On the "Submit Your Research" page, click on Faculties, Departments, Programs and Schools
  4. Select your department - it should be the same as the one mentioned on your paper in you affiliations
  5. On the next page, click on "Your-Department-Name" Publications - the link that ends with publications

Submitting Your Paper to the Repository[edit | edit source]

  1. Once you've clicked on the link, look below the Author Corner, there will be a new link to submit your research, click on it.
  2. Read through the agreement and tick the checkbox - click on continue
  3. Fill out your article's information
    • HINT : Open your paper in Zotero, most of the information is in Zotero's right pane
    • Remember to add the information of all your co-authors
    • If your paper is already published, check "No" for "Delay of Publication"
    • For keywords, you can refer to you article on the publisher page, or your manuscript
    • Make sure the discipline matches what your paper is about. By default it has your departmental disciplines loaded
    • In the "Creative Commons License" box, select "Creative Commons Attribution 4.0"
    • In the "Upload File" box:
      • if your paper is open-access, check "Link out to file on remote site" and provide the link to your paper page
      • if your paper is not published in an open-access journal, select "Upload file from your computer", and provide the preprint version. In general Dr. Pearce will link to the preprint or the Academia version of the preprint on Appropedia's splash page for your article.
      • HINT :If it is not there, you can find the preprint version on either Appropedia, Researchgate, Academia, or by searching the title of your paper followed by the keyword "preprint"
    • If you have provided most of the information from Zotero, you can leave the "Citation of this paper" box empty
  4. Click on the "Submit" button
  5. Good job, your article is submitted

Next Steps after You've Submitted Your Article to the Repository[edit | edit source]

  1. Your article will be transmitted to your department's administration for review and you will receive a confirmation email.
  2. You have the option to update your article information while in review by clicking on the article's name in YOUR ACCOUNT
  3. You will receive another email confirming that your paper has been successfully added to the Western open-access repository
  4. Congratulations, your article is now available to view in the Western open-access repository.
