Notice templates are used to present the reader with a message. They may or may not add the page to a category.

In contrast, tag templates are used to mark a page as having a certain characteristic, (e.g. prototype) or belonging to a certain group. Generally they add a page to a category. Userboxes ("This user is...") are examples of tag templates.

To create a notice:

  • Use {{notice}} (the easiest way)
  • Follow the instructions at Help:Notices (to customize the notice further, e.g. by adding an image).
