However, the Internet and its multifaceted platforms provide a potential solution to these problems. This paper examines the ways in which the Internet and other  (ICTs) can improve critical shortcomings to  efforts. The methods are examined by which OSAT is\n i) accelerating innovation by building and sharing knowledge,\n ii) improving collaboration and\n iii) increasing both the efficiency and effectiveness of many programs and projects.\nFour OSAT case studies are presented for organizations at the forefront of open collaborative technologies for sustainable development: i) , ii) Kopernik, iii) , and iv) . The key features, models and the approaches employed by these organizations are discussed and conclusions are drawn from these case studies to contribute insight and better guide the development of this new innovation strategy.","Page image":"File:Internet-osat.png","Page keywords":"MOST completed projects and publications, appropriate technology, IT, Open source","Page language":"en","Page license":"CC-BY-SA-3.0","Page title":"The Internet and other ICTs as tools and catalysts for sustainable development","Page title tag":"ICTs as Tools for Sustainable Development","Page views":"120","Page year":"Sunday, 01-Jan-12 00:00:00 UTC","Modification date":"Friday, 28-Nov-25 03:18:48 UTC"}
