This system is over 30 years old and part of Arcata’s pilot program for [[renewable energy]] systems. It had a slow leak from both of the dribble valves which are necessary for an open looped system. The advantage of and open looped system is added efficiency from not having a heat exchanger. The old valves were replaced after draining the collectors into a bucket from the drain outlet shown in the next picture. After being drained we replaced the dribble valves with minimum leakage and the problem was resolved.\n\n<br>System overview:\n\n* 80 gallon storage tank\n* 50 gallon gas back up\n* Open loop system\n\nPower produced:\n\n* 50,000 BTUs per day\n\nCost:\n\n* Undetermined\n\nEfficiency:\n\n* 85%\n\n{{Page data\n| keywords = Solar hot water heater, renewable energy systems, open looped system, dribble valves, repair, efficiency, heat exchanger, storage tank, 80 gallon storage tank, 50 gallon gas back up\n| sdg = SDG07 Affordable and clean energy, SDG06 Clean water and sanitation\n| published = 2009\n| license = CC-BY-SA-3.0\n| language = en\n}}\n\n[[Category:Solar]]\n[[Category:Repair]]"}
