It will output areas of each particle in your image, which can then be processed using other software like excel or Libreoffice.\n\n== Setup ==\n\nHelpful video (Made by someone else):\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQAZ--c9YfI\n\n1. Items Required:\n \tA. Particles\n \tB. Ruler (or Scale on Image)\n \tC. Camera (Cell Phone or Digital) that can take high quality photos\n \tD. High Contrast Background, either white or black depending on particle color\n\n[[File:ImageJ Instructions Setup.png|600px]]\n\n== Installing FIJI (Fiji Is Just ImageJ) ==\n\n\t\nDownload link: https://fiji.sc/\n\n== ImageJ Analysis ==\n\n3.\tOpen the ImageJ Software\n\n4.\tOpen image\n \tE. File > Open > Select Image\n\n5.\tSave as something memorable\n \tF. File > Save as > “PLA Pellet Distribution 6-1-2018”\n\n6.\tSet Scale on Image\n \tG. Select Line Tool\n \tH. Hold control and scroll to zoom\n \tI. Draw line on ruler a set distance (ex. From 50 to 60mm) – Click and Drag\n\n[[File:ImageJ Instructions Draw Line.png|600px]]\n\n \tJ. Go to Analyze > Set Scale\n \tK. Set known distance and units (ex. 10mm)\n \tL. Select OK, and your image in now calibrated to scale.\n\n7.\tDraw Rectangle around particles\n\n[[File:ImageJ Instructions Rectangle.png|600px]]\n\n8.\tDuplicate image by going to Image > Duplicate. It will open a new window with just the particles in the image.\n\n[[File:ImageJ Instructions Duplicate.png|600px]]\n\n9.\tSet Image as 8 bit by going Image > Type > 8 Bit\n\n[[File:ImageJ Instructions 8 bit.png|600px]]\n\n \n10.\tSet bandpass filter by going Process > FFT > Bandpass Filter. Hit OK without changing any settings.\n \n\n[[File:ImageJ Instructions Bandpass Filter.png|600px]]\n\n11.\tYou are now ready to perform a particle distribution; the previous steps were to get the image ready for analysis.\n\n12.\tAdjust the threshold by going to Image > Adjust > Threshold\n\n13.\tMove the two bars until you get black where the particles are, and a white background, it is ok if there is specks still showing, we will ignore those in the next steps. Example shown below. Note: If your original image background was white, the Adjustment Threshold background will be black.\n \n\n[[File:ImageJ Instructions Threshold Settings.png|600px]]\n\n14.\tHit apply\n \n15.\tAnalyze the particle size by going Analyze > Analyze Particles\n\n16.\tSet size to about the size you would expect, this can be tweaked to make sure that the specks are not being counted. You can also tweak the circularity of the particles as well. Go to Show > Outlines to output a picture of what the software is measuring\n\n17.\tCheck: Display Results and Include holes\n\n[[File:ImageJ Instructions Analyze Particles.png|600px]]\n\n \n18.\tResults are shown in a new window, as well as the image showing the particles that are actually being measured. Make sure that particles are not being counted as two together, this will skew area results.\n \n\n[[File:ImageJ Instructions Results.png|600px]]\n\n19.\tThe results window can be saved to a text document, where they can be formatted and analyzed further.\n \n20.\tDone!\n\n<!-- This code is for placing the citation you included above.
