Treadle pumps are designed to be operated by the farmer or hand in a \"stair stepper\" type motion to lift water from a depth of not over seven meters. Pumps manufacrtured today such as this [http://www.newdawnengineering.com/website/pumps/treadle/ one] are typically made of welded steel components with O ring seals. O rings are not readily available and having the skills and equipment to weld the components is rare in remote communities. Another large component of cost is the check valves. These are typically not serviceable and even more scarce than O rings. This design incorporates simple flap style check valves that are easy to understand and fix if necessary. The piston and check valves are 3D printable as well as the intake valve and top spout. It is possible the piston and valves could utilize no seals however the pumping efficiency is greatly reduced without them, especially with the poor quality prints I am getting at the moment. The addition of seals made of silicon caulk or possibly the soles of worn shoes could work or a 3d printable filament could provide the seals replacing the hot glue used in this prototype. The cylinders will be made of PVC pipe 4-6 inches in diameter, and the frame and pedals will be made of available local materials or 2x4's.","Page image":"File:Pump assembly.jpg","Page keywords":"3D printing, Open source scientific hardware, farming, irrigation, treadle pump, water, PVC, Plastic","Page language":"en","Page license":"CC-BY-SA-3.0","Page title":"OSAT 3D Printable Treadle Pump","Page views":"177","Page year":"Wednesday, 01-Jan-14 00:00:00 UTC","Project authors":"User:Jdkizer","Project coordinates":"43.621194444444, -84.682433333333","Project cost":"47.29","Project location":"Michigan, USA","Project thumb":"https://www.appropedia.org/w/images/thumb/5/57/Pump_assembly.jpg/330px-Pump_assembly.jpg","Project type":"Water pump","Project was made":"1","Project was replicated":"1","Project year":"Wednesday, 01-Jan-14 00:00:00 UTC","Modification date":"Wednesday, 02-Sep-26 12:12:14 UTC"}
