In the context of higher-order Ambisonics, the spatial resolution depends on the number and distribution of sensors over the surface of a sphere. Commercially available arrays have set configurations that cannot be changed, which limits their usability for experimental and educational spatial audio applications. Therefore, an opensource modular design using MEMS microphones and 3D printing is proposed for selectively capturing frequency-dependent spatial components of sound-fields. Following a modular paradigm, the presented device is\nlow cost and decomposes the array into smaller units (a matrix, connectors and microphones), which can be easily rearranged to capture up to third-order spherical harmonic signals with various physical configurations.","Page image":"File:Spheremic.JPG","Page keywords":"open source hardware, spherical microphone array modular microphone, 3D printing, FOSH, open hardware, osat, physics, MOST completed projects and publications, Sound, science, open source, OSAT 3D-Printable Designs, Open source scientific hardware","Page language":"en","Page license":"CC-BY-SA-3.0","Page title":"Modular Design for Spherical Microphone Arrays","Page views":"137","Page year":"Monday, 01-Jan-18 00:00:00 UTC","Project authors":"User:J.M.Pearce, González R., Lokki T.","Project coordinates":"43.621194444444, -84.682433333333","Project location":"Michigan, USA","Project status":"Designed, Modelled, Prototyped, Verified","Project thumb":"https://www.appropedia.org/w/images/3/3f/Spheremic.JPG","Modification date":"Thursday, 27-Nov-25 22:29:38 UTC"}
