Early detection of preeclampsia could reduce the number of deaths each year. Blood pressure is an important indicator that is used to detect preeclampsia.\n\n== Detailed description of the solution ==\n\nThe device is a solar powered blood pressure monitor. It is used to detect the presence of preeclampsia before eclampsia occurs in birth. It is designed to be used with little training.\n\n== Designed by ==\n\n* Designed by: Andrew Shennan and colleagues at Kings College London\n* Manufacturer location: The product is currently under development in the UK.\n\n== When and where it was tested/implemented ==\n\nThis device will be tested in Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Zimbabwe.\n\n== Funding Source ==\n\nThis project received $100,000 from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Grand Challenges Explorations Grant.\n\n== References ==\n\n=== Externally generated reports ===\n\nCommunity BP Monitoring to Detect Pre-eclampsia in Africa - Maternal and Neonatal Directed Assessment of Technology.
