The project acts as an interactive display model of both gas and electric engines using color coordinated parts and lights to lead the user. The project is intended to be an inspirational, engaging, and fun activity for anyone that come across it within the library. It was designed and constructed during the Spring 2025 semester for the Engineering 205: Introduction to Design class.\n\n== Background ==\n\nWho what when where why\n\nThe basis of this project stems from the Engineering 205: Introduction to Design class. Within Engineering 205 students learn about the design process as well as put it into action with a large scale project. The large scale projects are funded usually form an outside source and act as some sort of instalment or product for the given client. For the 2025 Spring Semester the Engineering 205 class worked with both the Cal Poly Humboldt makerspace as well as the Cal Poly Humboldt Library. The Engines project was in collaboration with the Cal Poly Humboldt Library and their Cosmos in the Stacks Program. The Cosmos in the Stacks is a program ran by the library with the goal to, \"explore self-guided interactive exhibits in the library stacks and curate an adventure through all the disciplines in the Library of Congress Classification system\" '''''(Cosmos in the Stacks Library Cite'''''). As part of this program the Engine project will be placed on the third floor of the library within the engines section as pictured. The area designated to it includes two cleared out bookshelves as well as the space in between the wall and bookshelf.\n\n<nowiki>***</nowiki>Picture***\n\nThe Engines project was selected by Gear No.3, a group of 3 engineering students consisting of Sol McJimsey, Opi Gonzales Padilla, and Matthew Simpson.\n\n== Problem statement ==\n\nThe objective of this project create a self-guided interactive experience that showcases the gas and electric engines section of the library all while being engaging, interactive, and inspiring to future engineers.\n\n=== Criteria ===\n\nInclude a brief intro to the criteria and then include a table with constraints and weights (0-10 highest).\n\n{| class=\"wikitable\"\n! Criteria\n! Description\n! Weight (1-10)\n|-\n| Durability\n| The greater resistance to wear and tear, less intense maintenance, and less risk of breakage are all preferred.\n| 10\n|-\n| Aesthetics\n| The visual/spatial design of the project must be simple/approachable, accessible, appealing, and facilitate learning to a broad range of users.\n| 9\n|-\n| Interactivity\n| The user(s) must be able to manually engage with the display, in a way that is tactile and/or results in a change that facilitates their learning.\n| 8\n|-\n| Accuracy of Information\n| The display must be simplified for understanding of the user, but not at the expense of losing critical details of engines; users who seek to learn more in-depth information should not be misled by the models.\n| 7\n|-\n| Noise Level\n| A display with less sound and/or fewer sudden spikes in sound is preferred.\n| 5\n|-\n| Cost\n| Cheaper materials/pieces for the display building as well as less labor time required to assemble, are preferred.\n| 4\n|}\n\n== Prototyping ==\n\nShow examples of the prototyping process including what you learned. A great way to communicate your design your process (and to earn extra points!) is to show your early drawings (by hand and digital), failed attempts and photos of tools, materials and your team (or your hands) as you build this prototype.\n\n<gallery mode=\"packed-hover\" heights=\"250px\" caption=\"Sample gallery\">\nFile:Aefswh-finished.jpg|Sample caption text.\nFile:Winterbreak 040 -800x600-.jpg|More sample caption text. Start with the biggest overview first.\n\n== Construction ==\n\nA very complete description of how the final project is built. This large section should have lots of pictures. Use the [[Help:Images#Galleries]] and probably [[Template:Steps]] (e.g. [[Barrel O' Fun Worm Bin Instructions]]).\n\n<gallery mode=\"packed-hover\" heights=\"250px\" caption=\"Sample gallery\">\nFile:Aefswh-finished.jpg|Sample caption text.\nFile:Winterbreak 040 -800x600-.jpg|More sample caption text. See [[Template:Video]] for information on how to add and annotate videos.\n\n{{Video\n| video = House wren in JBWR (50171).webm\n| align = center\n| title = House wren in JBWR\n| description = House wren guards its nest\n| keywords = bird, wren, nest\n| authors = Rhododendrites\n| date = 2020-07-05\n| language = es\n| license = CC-BY-SA 4.0\n| annotations =\n* 0:10 Birdie coming in\n* 0:16 Birdie is watching you\n* 1:19 Imma head out\n* 1:30 Bye\n}}\n\n=== Bill of materials ===\n\nDescription of costs, donations, the fact that this is just proposed, etc. For a simple cost table, see [[Help:Table examples#Cost Table]] and [[Template:Bill of materials]] for two nice formats.\n\n{{Bill of materials\n| currency = USD\n| item1 = Things\n| item1-amount = 3\n| item1-cost = 5.75\n| item1-text = Get at [https://example.com the thing store]\n| item2 = Another thing\n| item2-text = 3' x 2', yellow\n| item2-amount = 1\n| item2-cost = 150\n}}\n\n== Operation ==\n\nThis is how to operate. It should have a brief introduction. You might want to show images or videos with step-by-step instructions when needed.{{Step\n| number = 1\n| title = Remove the alligator clips from both of the solar panels\n| text = Remove the alligator clips from the red and black wires that attach to the solar panels by using the wire cutter\n| image = To Catch the Sun Ecoworthy 20W panel with wire stripped.jpg\n}}\n\n{{Step\n| number = 2\n| title = Strip insulation from solar panel wires\n| text = Strip about 3/8 inch of insulation off the solar panel wires by using the 10 or 12-gauge wire stripper (whichever fits better)\n| image = To Catch the Sun panel and wire stripper.jpg\n}}\n\n=== Maintenance ===\n\nIntroduce this maintenance section. Help ask the questions:\n\n* Are there any needed actions for maintenance?\n* How often?\n* Who should perform maintenance?\n\n=== Maintenance schedule ===\n\nThis is when to maintain what. For complex issues, the solution might just say something like contact ________. It should be a table in this format:\n\n{| class=\"wikitable\"\n! Problem\n!
