Some of the free software mentioned here does not have detailed maps (or maps at all) nor the ability to follow streets or type in street names (no geocoding). However, in many cases, it is also that which makes the program free (and sometimes open source), avoid the need of an internet connection, and make it very lightweight (allowing use on small portable devices as Palm or PocketPC). Very basic programs like this may not be suitable for road navigation in cars, but serve their purpose for navigation while walking/trekking, and for use at sea. To determine the GPS coordinates of your destination, you can use sites like [http://gpscoordinates.eu/determine-gps-coordinates.php GPScoordinates.eu] and [http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/geocode GPS visualizer]","Page keywords":"Global Positioning System, GPS navigation devices, Comparisons, open source","Page language":"en","Page license":"CC-BY-SA-3.0","Page title":"Comparison of free off-line GPS software","Page views":"284","Page year":"Wednesday, 01-Jan-14 00:00:00 UTC","Modification date":"Friday, 28-Nov-25 13:53:05 UTC"}
